About SGOWI

S.G.O.W. ( Sea Guard Ocean Watch ) has been operating successfully  since June 2015 in the Hérault department collaborating with local communities and water authorities to resolve local , non local pollution and to sensibilise the general public during their water sports and their commercial navigational activities . We collected 2000  floating objects of garbage during our patrol missions and inform the public about effective prevention of pollution.

We also asure in cooperation with S.G.O.W.I. members the role of an ecologic marine guard unit monitoring and patrolling the southern french inland and coastline working in cooperation with local law enforcement to limit abuse of any kind to the ocean and marine life environment.

During the campaigns of 2015/2016 S.G.O.W.I. patrols protected successfully sensible sites like the Laguna du Thau,The Midi Channel (UNESCO Heritage site) and the upper Herault river in sensibilisation the public towards ecologic impact in protected areas notable to speed limits ,seagrass protected areas, wildlife preservation and shore bank protection.

We are covering a total of 75 qkm of marine resort of the Herault Department.

Actively involved in protecting endangered species like in particular the King Fisher bird we are giving advice in the areas where shipping activities cross the living habitat of the birds who are protected under the Berne Convention.

Due to the rising number of fast emerging leisure and commercial activities within the local marine environment a S.G.O.W. is projecting a Training and Research Center that is due to become a necessary institution to educate and train locally environmental NGO Sea Guards to protect these natural and fragile coastal marine territories for the next decades to come.
